Rosin press size calculator

Enter the approximate loaded area and the pressure target recommended for your equipment/process. The tool converts that into total force and tons-force.

Use a target appropriate to your press/process documentation.

Why platen size and tonnage are connected

Pressure is force divided by area. That means the same two-ton force produces a very different pressure when spread across 4 square inches versus 20 square inches. This is why “X-ton press” by itself is an incomplete sizing description.

Use the result as a shopping filter

The result can help eliminate machines that are obviously too small for a user-selected loaded area and pressure target. It should not be used to exceed a press manufacturer’s rated force, platen load or safety limits.

Safety: presses combine high force, hot surfaces and electrical/mechanical components. Follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions and rated limits.

Frequently asked questions

Is higher pressure always better?

No. The useful operating pressure depends on material, bag/platen area, equipment design and process. Follow the press and consumable manufacturers’ recommendations.

What does this calculator actually estimate?

It estimates force required to reach a user-selected pounds-per-square-inch target across a user-entered loaded area. It is a mechanical sizing aid, not a process recipe.

Why use loaded area instead of full platen size?

Pressure is force divided by the area actually being loaded. A small package on a large platen does not use the whole platen area.
